Groceries for the Week of 8/27

This week's grocery total came to about $100 (I had to buy extra virgin olive oil this week!). Ground beef was on sale for $1.69/lb and london broil was $1.49/lb. I was able to stock up on tuna and canned tomatoes and beans. Normally I used dried beans, but have plenty of canned beans on hand at all times too. Throughout the week I make a variety of homemade desserts , granola, and muffins. This week I'll also be baking bread.

We'll be enjoying the following dinners:

  • Pasta with meatballs (I'll double the meatballs for a freezer meal and use the leftover sauce later in the week). Caesar salad.
  • Moroccan Chick Pea Stew. Vegetable salad.
  • Red bean falafels with avocado dressing on whole wheat pitas. Salad.
  • London Broil, creamed corn with bacon and leeks, garlic fries.
  • Indian lentils with brown rice. Sweet potatoes. Carrot sticks with dip.
  • Pizza with leftover sauce. Salad with lots of veggies.

Would you be willing to share your recipe for your Moroccan stew? I make that, too, but I"m not sure I like my version.

Michelle,
What do you usually feed your crew for breakfast and lunch? I think I could do suppers for about $100 per week, but cereal and lunchmeat and such are budget busters for me!!!

Sarah - I'll post those recipes soon. Kelli - No lunch meat or cereals here. Sorta! I'll buy cereal as a treat if it's on sale and I can combine it with a coupon. Or sometimes I'll buy store brand corn flakes or such. Otherwise it's oatmeal (bought in 50lb bags for about $20), eggs, muffins, yogurt, fruit, homemade bread, etc. On weekends I might make bulk waffles or pancakes.

Lunches consist usually of leftovers. But otherwise, PBJ on homemade bread, eggs, yogurt, veggies and dip, granola, pasta & veggie salad, pasta, tuna, etc.

Snacks are usually pop corn, fruit, veggies, etc. Whatever we can scrounge up!

I agree - cereal and lunch meat are budget busters for sure! Would your dc go for any of the above instead? They don't take much time to prepare. Your dc are older than mine (I think!) & could probably do much of it on their own??? At what age am I supposed to start letting them do this on their own anyway, lol!?
