This is what I did today! The throw took me about six hours to complete. Instead of the Candy Apple Red specks in the blanket shown, I chose Antique, which is a burgundy. I used Lion Brand's Speed Stix (size 50mm). Other than feeling like I have carpal tunnel after six hours of knitting, it wasn't too bad to knit with them.
